How To

Keep Me In The Best Condition

  • Rinse me thoroughly to make sure I am fully clean after each use.
  • Keep me dry in an open-air toothbrush holder or lie me flat to drain, I don’t like toothbrush holders that collect water!
  • Dentists and hygienists recommend replacing me every 3 months.

Remove The Bristles

There are two approaches to removing the bristles from the handle. Either, snap the head off and dispose of the head and bristles or pull the bristles out with some pliers.

A step-by-step guide to removing the bristles with pliers:

Step 1: Use the pliers to grip a bunch of bristles. We suggest going for smaller bunches at a time; otherwise they’ll be tough to pull out.

Step 2: Pull the bristles out, bunch by bunch. You’ll begin to form a small pile of bristles and tiny aluminium staples used to hold the bristles in place.

Step 3: Separate the different materials into two piles for recycling.

Recycle The Bristles

Our TLE Bamboo Toothbrush is made with DuPont Nylon-6 bristles, although this material is not home compostable, it is recyclable and in some cases can be accepted by roadside collection services, so you can contact your local authority to see if they will accept this material for recycling. DuPont are a company who are renowned for their high-purity materials therefore the Nylon bristles can usually be recycled into a high quality plastic product.

Recycle The Staples

The staples used to hold the bristles in place are tiny squares of aluminium and are recyclable with most recycling collection services. Wrap the tiny bits of aluminium in some old foil or other metal wrapping to keep them from getting separated, place this in your aluminium recycling.

Dispose Or Compost The Handle

Your TLE Bamboo Toothbrush is fully compostable, either in your home compost or industrial composting facilities. The perfect condition for your bamboo toothbrush handle to biodegrade is fully emerged in warm and wet soil. How long it will take to break down will depend on your specific compost bin and soil composition. For most home-compost bins, this should take between 4-6 months. If you happen to have access to an industrial composter, your bamboo toothbrush could break down within a few weeks.

Reuse Or Upcycle The Toothbrush

  • Use as a nail brush
  • Use as a cleaning brush
  • Use as an electrical item duster
  • Use for arts and crafts with your kids, nieces and nephews
  • Use as plant markers
  • Use as a paint stirrer

Perfectly simple eco swap

Kids love them. Easy to hold, beautifully made and they love the words and colour dips

Great value, cleans well.

Having been using bamboo brushes for a few years now, and having tried several different brands, these really do come up trumps.
The packaging is brilliant, I love that it explains how to recycle every part.
The brush is a good size, and the head a good shape, bristles just right ( I was concerned they would be too soft but they’re not). The painted tip is a really good idea to stop the wood going mouldy when standing in a cup which has happened with some brands.
Looking after my teeth is really important to me, these leave my teeth feeling really clean knowing I’m doing a tiny bit for the environment. And when it is too worn out to use on my teeth, it will be used to clean round my taps! (With vinegar and lemon juice for a complete eco clean!).

Firmer than the rest

These brushes are much better than others I have tried to date - the bristles are a bit firmer and so last longer. Reasonably priced and individual colours for family members.
